Dr. Jon Margerum-Leys is in his ninth year as Dean of the School of Education and Human Services at Oakland University, having previously served as the Dean of the School of Education at California Polytechnic at San Luis Obispo, and as Associate Dean of the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University. In Michigan, Jon is the longest currently serving education dean at any university and is past president of the Michigan Public Education Deans.
Jon has served multiple professional organizations, including the OU/Pontiac initiative, the Higher Learning Commission, the Consortium for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). Over the years, he has been a swimming and sailing instructor, United States Army soldier, professional musician, middle and high school teacher, college professor, and university administrator. He has been married to Julie Margerum-Leys for over thirty-five years. They have two daughters, Meagan, and Emma, and a twenty-five-pound cat named Mr. Darcy. Jon is a happy man.
